William F. Plachy Sr.

William F. Plachy Sr. died at Mercy Hospital Care Center in Harvard, Illinois on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.  

William was born September 19, 1922, to William and Irene (Garlathy) Plachy in Windber, PA.

He graduated from Ferndale High School in Johnstown, PA in 1940. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, from 1942-1945. He also spent part of his career as a watch repairman and car salesman, later going on to own and operate jewelry stores in both Frankfort and Lake Zurich, IL.

On December 17, 1942, he was married to Arlene Doornbosch. On November 14, 1995, he married Carolyn Reich, they spent over 25 years together, before her passing on July 11, 2021.

He is survived by his children William Plachy Jr., Arlene (Donald) Guinta, Barbara (Michael) Glynn, Michael Plachy, Brian Plachy, Craig Plachy, Tracy (Ed) Mortensen, Eric (Sandra) Peterson; grandchildren Kelly, Michael, Lisa, Lynn, Carly, Katie, Brad, Matthew, Taryn, Kevin, Ashley, Anthony, Matthew, Kayla, Joe, Brad, Cy, Shannon,, and Liam; great-grandchildren Atilio, Cade, Mia, Emma, Nate, Nicky, Keira, Jameson, and Aislynn.

Predeceased by his parents,William and Irene Plachy, wife Carolyn Plachy, siblings Irene, Richard, Mary Jane, Alice, and David.

Services will be held at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St. Harvard, IL 60033, on Sat. October 29, 2022, at 11 am, Inurnment will be Tues. Nov. 1, 2022, at noon in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd. Elwood, IL 60421.
