William Carroll Henning

William “Carroll” Henning, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, died July 25, 2022 at his home in Harvard.

Carroll was born on March 11, 1932 in Breckenridge County, KY to Pambo “Gene” Henning and Elizabeth (Wheatley) Henning.  He is survived by his wife Catherine P. (Alexander) Henning whom he married on August 18, 1951 in Axtel, KY.  Carroll and Catherine have 11 surviving children:  Harold (Mary) Henning, Harvard; Ralph (Susan) Henning, Timberlane; Catherine (Francis) Slobodnik, Topeka, KS; William (Theresa) Henning, Norwood, MO; Mary Henning, Loves Park; Judy Rimkus, Harvard; Wayne Henning, Clinton, WI; Kevin (Kim) Henning, Loves Park, Janice (Darrell) Pribble, South Beloit; Bridget (Vince) Vermett, Poplar Grove; and Marcia (David) Moellring, Paloma.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two infant sons, Daniel & Jeffery; two infant grandsons, Andrew & Timothy Vermett; one great-grandson, Lukas Parsek; six brothers, Paul, Frank, Harry, James, Victor and Harold; four sisters, Mary, Sr. Laura, Lena and Elizabeth.

Carroll’s legacy continues with his 53 grandchildren and 80+ great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law (and cousin) R.L. Henning, Beloit, WI, a sister in-law, Lillian Henning, Hardinsburg, KY and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carroll was a farmer in occupation and at heart.  He began as a tobacco farmer in Kentucky and continued as a dairy and grain farmer near Harvard where he and Catherine raised their children.  Later, Carroll worked as ground maintenance at Resurrection Center in Woodstock.  Carroll lived to work hard, love his family, and practice his Catholic faith.  His family is so grateful for him and will miss him as he moves on to his heavenly home.

The visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM Thur., July 28 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033.  The funeral mass will be 10 AM Fri., July 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 206 E. Front St., Harvard, IL 60033.  Rev. Steve Clarke will officiate.  The interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard where Carroll was a member for 60 years or to CURE Childhood Cancer in Atlanta, GA.
