Wesley “Wes” E. Carnehl, age 67, passed away in Chicago on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, on March 24, 1954, Wes was the 2nd child to Wilbert & Mildred (Maierhofer) Carnehl.  He graduated from Lake Zurich High School in 1972 and was married on August 9, 1975, to Suzanne (Klimek) Carnehl.

Wes received an Associate's Degree in Business from the College of Lake County.   His Father-In-Law, Leopold Klimek, introduced him to the Industrial Supply Profession.  With an Entrepreneur's spirit and the support from his devoted wife, Suzie, the two of them became successful business owners and started their own Industrial Supply Company called Carnehl Enterprises, Inc.   They were a family-owned and operated business that served the Chicagoland area for over 40 years.  You may have seen Wes driving around in his light-yellow Iveco truck with the slogan “Run Around Sue” below the front windshield.  He was a devoted Father & Husband that worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

Wes & Suzie moved to Marengo, IL on 20 acres to build their dream home for their young, growing family.  He designed and built a Wisconsin Log Cabin Home in 1985 with Suzie.  They raised 4 children together on this homestead: Wayne, Christine, Sarah, and Melissa.  He took pride in his work and taught his children how to maintain and respect their possessions.  The land offered an outdoor classroom where he could share his love for gardening and nature with his family.

Wes was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for 24 years and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He also served as an Elder in their local Lutheran Church.

Wes is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Suzie Carnehl; loving children, Christine (Lyle) Kohley, Sarah (Matthew) Keller, Melissa Carnehl, Daughter-in-law Courtney (Finke) Carnehl; and 'Papa’ to 7 cherished grandchildren: Michelle & Maci Carnehl, Brandon Kohley, Evelyn, Vera, Lucy, and Ruth Keller; his sister, Carole Carnehl, nephew Adam Hubbard, and brother, Russell Carnehl.

He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne (1977-2021), and his parents Wilbert & Mildred Carnehl.

Visitation will be from 1:30-4 pm and a Memorial Service to follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St., Union, IL 60180 on Sunday January 30, 2022.
