Violet L. Cooper

It is with great sorrow to the family of Violet Louise Vance Cooper, age 89, to announce her passing on September 26, 2024. She passed away peacefully at her home in Capron, IL, surrounded by her family.

Violet was born June 27, 1935, in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Mills Bud Vance and Ellen Louise Petry Vance Hayes. As a young girl Violet did what she loved most at that time in her life, she sang in church and was on the radio in West Virginia with her best friend.

 Violet was a proud resident of both Carpentersville and Capron, IL. She lived in Carpentersville for 22 years with her spouse and children, before moving to Capron, IL in 1988 where she and her spouse both resided until their passing.

She was married to the love of her life Orville C. Cooper from May 27, 1954, until his passing February 8, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt.  

As a young woman, Violet was a nurse's aide at Charleston General Hospital, Charleston, WV. Later in life, she was the secretary for the United Pentecostal Church of Harvard, IL for many years. Violet always had the ability to show love, kindness and compassion to all those around her.  

She is survived by her children Shirley (Ken) Berghorn of Capron, IL, Gail (Richard) Gomez of Capron, IL, Catherine (Bobby) Watkins of Carpentersville, IL, Pamela (Tony) Urback of Lake in the Hills, IL, as well as her 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Violet is preceded in death by her husband Orville Cooper, her parents Mills Vance and Ellen Hayes, her brothers William Vance, Clarence Vance and Cecil Vance.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate and honor the life of Violet Cooper at the Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home located at 107 W. Sumner Street, Harvard, IL. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Monday, September 30, 2024.  Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with Reverend Rocky Noland officiating. Eulogy to be given by her grandson, Reverend R. Nathan Gomez.
