Timothy "Tim" Nelson

Timothy A. Nelson “Tim,” 52, of Poplar Grove, IL and formerly of Chicago, passed away on Sept. 10, 2022, in Chicago, IL.

Tim was born on Oct. 6, 1969, in Evergreen Park, IL, the son of Sven Raymond Nelson and Ruth (White) Nelson. On Oct. 27, 2021, he married the love of his life Kara (Condon) Nelson in Belvidere, IL.

Tim was a family man who loved his family and friends above anything else. He had the most infectious personality and smile. There was never a stranger that he met that didn’t walk away thinking they were best friends. He was a kid at heart and loved to laugh and make others around him laugh. Tim was a huge Marvel and Star Wars fan, which he had in common with his stepson Shane and brother Dave- and was teased often by his wife for it. In other’s time of need, Tim would be the first person to step up and offer help. He was an accomplished athlete most of his life and participated in triathlons in both Chicago and Michigan. Tim was the baby of his family and shared a special bond with his sisters, brother, and his cousin Bryan. Tim thoroughly enjoyed being a part of his wife Kara’s large family. He fit right in and was welcomed with open arms. Tim was an amazing dog dad to Greta and Mac and loved taking what he referred to as his kids on walks. Tim was absolutely elated to be a grandpa to his grandson Boston and nicknamed him Boss man. He was a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Tim was proud to be a police officer and faithfully served the city of Chicago for 14 years before recently retiring. He will be missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

Tim is survived by his cherished wife, Kara (Condon) Nelson; his stepson Shane (Paige) Mackie; grandson Boston; his mother, Ruth Nelson; his sisters Janet (Mark) Myers and Karen (Karl) Mazur; his brother David (Hanna) Nelson; his nieces and nephews Thomas (Emily), Lindsey (Jacob), Ellinee, Jacob, Jenna (Michael), Emma, Daniel, Kendra, Nathan, and Lilah; his great-nephew Logan; his great-niece Isabella; his father and mother-in-law Tom and Midge Condon; brothers-in-law Shawn (Angela) Condon, and Michael (Rachel) Condon; sister-in-law Keeli (Bjorn) Nebergall; nieces Lyndee (Mark), Haley, Molly, and Madelyn; and nephews Grady, Noah, and Caleb.

He was preceded in death by his father Sven on November 21, 2012.

A memorial gathering will be held from 9 AM until time of memorial service at 12 PM on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church of Harvard, 7100 Harvard Hills Rd., Harvard, IL 60033. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Greg Lindmark Foundation in Tim’s memory.
