Thomas Condon Jr. Obituary

Thomas Joseph Condon Jr. "Tom" 72 of Harvard, IL passed away on April 29th, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on January 27th, 1951, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to Thomas Joseph Condon Sr. and Sarah "Sally" (Sullivan) Condon. On April 24th, 1971, he married the love of his life Margie (Anderson) Condon in Harvard, IL.

After attending Rock Valley College, he enlisted in the Air Force serving from 1970 to 1974. While in the Air Force he continued his education at the University of Illinois Champaign. After being honorably discharged he and his family moved back to Harvard. He was a dedicated family man and devoted husband. He was an accomplished athlete and passed his love of sports on to his children. He coached his kids’ sports teams and was a former Commissioner of the Harvard Boys League. His love of all things sports eventually led him to becoming a high school and junior tackle football referee.  Although not born in Harvard he considered it his home. He donated his time to his community serving on the zoning board and was a member of the rotary club. He was a long-time member of the Harvard Moose Lodge as well. Tom began as a volunteer firefighter at the Harvard Fire Protection District eventually becoming District President. He faithfully served his community for 35 years before retiring from the board. He often liked to stop at the firehouse and have coffee with the duty crew. He was a man of faith and was a former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Tom began his career at Dean Food's in 1974, eventually becoming Plant manager until his retirement in 2013. Tom was a staple of Harvard Milk Days and was honored as the Grand Marshall of the parade in 2012. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids. He could often be seen around his neighborhood driving them around in his golf cart. He was an avid Chicago Bears, Penn State and Notre Dame fan.

He was a member of Dads along the sidelines and advocated for improvements to the high-school track and football field. In 2010 he was inducted into the Harvard High School Alumni Hall of fame. He loved the Harvard community and was always willing to help anyone in need. His generosity was known to his family, friends, and strangers alike. His sense of humor was second to none. He was a proud Irishman, so he sometimes found it difficult to make a long story short. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.

Tom is survived by his cherished wife Margie (Anderson) Condon, his 4 children Shawn (Angela) Condon, Kara Nelson, Michael (Rachel) Condon and Keeli (Bjorn) Nebergall. His grandchildren Lyndee (Mark) Mersch, Shane (Paige) Mackie, Ryan Bough, Chase Bough, Grady Condon, Haley Condon, Molly Condon, Noah Nebergall, Caleb Nebergall, Madelyn Nebergall and his Great grandchildren Mason Mersch, Isabelle Mersch, Silas Mersch and Boston Mackie. His brothers Chris (Dev) Condon and John (Amy) Condon his cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and many more beloved extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Sally Condon, his father and mother-in-law Charlie and Julia Anderson and his son in law Tim Nelson.
