Shirley “Darlene” (Sager) Greer, 85, of Harvard, IL passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
Darlene was born on September 12, 1940, in Morris, MN, the daughter of Olaf and Helen (Mathison) Nelson. She moved with her family to Capron when she was a young child. Darlene graduated from North Boone High School.
Darlene married Larry Sager on February 6, 1960, in Capron, IL and the pair was blessed with a son, Steve Sager, and a daughter, Kim Sager. Tragically, Larry passed away on September 25, 1970. Darlene was fortunate to find love and companionship with Thomas Greer, and they were united in marriage. Their family expanded with the birth of their son, David Greer.
Darlene spent her working career at the Admiral Corporation, MPC, Inc. and Able Cable Division. She was a devoted wife and mother. Darlene deeply treasured her family and appreciated the close connection they shared. She enjoyed going to casinos, auctions, garage sales, and flea markets. Darlene was overjoyed when she became a grandmother, and later a great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Darlene is survived by her husband Thomas Greer; her children Steve (Cynthia) Sager, Kim (former husband Paul) Durkee, and David (Christina Wheeler) Greer; grandchildren Michael Durkee, Scott Sager, Sheri (Joe) Erber, and Seth Sager; great-grandchildren Brianna, Jackson, Benjamin, and Jacob Erber; her sister Bonnie Kunde; her brother Gordon Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was reunited in death with her parents, her first husband Larry Sager, siblings Harlan (Joyce) Nelson, Robert (Juanita) Nelson, Irene Niday, Betty (Larry) Elliott, and Carol (Ken) Spoden, and her infant granddaughter Sara Sager.
The family would like to thank Mercy Harvard Hospital, JourneyCare Hospice, and Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home for their compassionate care and the comfort they provided during their time of need.
