Ruth Kunkel

Ruth Kunkel, 69, of Belvidere, passed away at her home on April 15, 2020.

She was born May 5, 1950, in Harvard, IL; to the late Russell and Hazel (Meckley) Ostrum. Ruth worked as a HAB tech in Woodstock, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, working with her flowers, helping others and her relationship with God.

Ruth was grateful and humbled for her 35 years of sobriety and all the people she had come to know and love through her program. She was a breast cancer survivor and helped others with their cancer battle.

Ruth married Gary M. Kunkel on February 18, 1988, in Woodstock, IL. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2012.

Survivors include her daughters Kimberly (Greg) Rucker of Belvidere, and Victoria (Ellis Aldridge) Homan of Robbins, NC; eight grandchildren Kate, Kristopher, Stephen, Patrick, Samantha, Rebecca, Ashley & William; one great-grandchild Olivia Hazel.

She is also survived by a sister Rose Coulter-Richards of Sun City, AZ and brother Rex Ostrum of McCook, NE. Many cousins, 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Dunham Chemung Cemetery. A Celebration of Ruth's life will take place after the burial from 1- 5 p.m. at her daughter Kim's house in Garden Praire, IL.
