Ronald G. Platt, 85, of Harvard, IL passed away suddenly at home Saturday, April 17, 2021.
Ron was born May 28, 1935, in Chicago, IL the son of the late Eugene and Grace (Callahan) Platt.
He married the love of his life Marilyn C. Potempa, February 11, 1956, at St. John Berchaman Church in Chicago, IL.
He was a leading designer in the packaging industry, operating his business, Carton Design and Samples from 1967 until his retirement. He worked many long hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months a year, yet always made time to be home for dinner and spend time with his family.
His passions were his family, steam locomotives, catfishing, and skeet shooting, for which he won many championships.
He is survived by his children Timothy of Harvard, former daughter-in-law Debbie Drake Platt, Amy (Robert) Dapper of Harvard, Michael (Claudia) of Harvard and Melisa (Edward) Parisi of River Grove, IL; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother and best friend Thomas (Geraldine) Platt of Marengo; brother-in-law Joseph Potempa of Harvard; many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and fond friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2017, son Joseph, daughter Judith and infant daughter Mary Elizabeth.
Ron will be remembered for his work ethic, gentle guidance, and love of history, country, and his family.
A private graveside service was held Friday, April 23, 2021, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Harvard, IL.
