Roger L. Hugg, Jr., 74, passed away February 5, 2023, at his home in Harvard, IL, surrounded by his family, following a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. He was born April 15, 1948, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Roger and Sarah (McCraw) Hugg. On August 2, 1968, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Janet. They shared 54 loving years together, having three wonderful children of whom he was very proud.
Roger served in the Naval Air Reserves and went on to have a career in the fire service. In 1991 he retired as Chief of the Rolling Meadows Fire Department but continued to serve on volunteer fire departments throughout his retirement. Most recently, he served as President of the Harvard Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. He was a hardworking man with many hobbies and talents, most notably his exceptional woodworking skills. Roger was always striving for perfection in everything he did.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife Janet (Olsen) Hugg, children Eric (Diana) Hugg of Buffalo Grove, IL, Jeffery Hugg (Lisa Carbonara), and Sarah (Eric) Turner of Columbia, IL, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and sisters Karen (Richard) Husby of Aubrey, TX and Jennifer “Ally” Hugg of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Roger and Sarah Hugg.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Division St., Harvard, IL 60033.
