Obituary

Rickey Stanley Cutts, 70 , of Harvard, IL, passed away peacefully at Northwestern Medicine Hospital McHenry on March 17, 2023, after battling his most recent health issues.

Rick was born March 17, 1953, to Stanley H. and Gertrude J. (Voss) Cutts in Sycamore, IL.  He spent his early life in Genoa, IL, living on a farm for about one year before his family moved to Harvard.  That is where his family made their home and continued to raise their children.  Rick was a graduate of the Harvard High School Class of 1971.

Upon graduation from high school, Rick was employed by the road building company Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake, IL, until his retirement in 2008.  He was a proud union member of Teamsters Local 301.

Being a bachelor his entire life, Rick’s pride and joy was his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, which he bought used in 1972 at the young age of 19.  From that day forward, he kept that car in mint show-car condition until his final days, having won numerous awards at area car shows for years.  Besides his muscle car, Rick enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing, both open water and ice, and was a Chicago Bears and NASCAR fan.  He also enjoyed woodworking, having made or refinished several projects in his heated third-stall woodworking shop of his garage.  He was very fond of his nieces and nephews and treated them as if they were his own children.

Survivors include his brothers Ronald Cutts and William (Nancy) Cutts, both of Harvard; nephews Gregory (Regina) Kurth of Geneva, IL, Bradley (Dee Dee Kangeter) Cutts of Freeport, IL, Justin (Kayla Bates) Cutts of Janesville, WI, and Jacob (Kayce Wilson) Cutts of Janesville, WI; nieces Laura (Scot) Hay of Harvard, and Rebecca (John) Grandt of McHenry, IL; great nieces and nephews; aunts; several cousins; many close and dear friends.  Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy Kurth, and his brother-in-law Lee Kurth.

Per Rick’s wishes, donations or memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Chicago, the place that provided Rick a better quality of life at a young age.
