Richard "Dick" C Burton

Dick Burton, age 85, of Harvard, IL died peacefully at home on March 31, 2023 of complications from Crohn’s Disease. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Cora Burton, and his beloved wife Judith Ohlenroth Burton. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Judy, Larry (Joann), Ken (Kathy) and Darlene (Joe), his brother in-law Rich (Pixie) Ohlenroth, daughters Kathy (Dan Jones), Karen (Ron Howe) and Sheila and his grandchildren Olivia, Virginia (Adam Grochocki), Sarah, Joe, Mitchell, Catherine, Elizabeth, Cole and Sophia.

Dick was born in Harvard, graduating from Harvard High School in 1955 and the University of Illinois in 1959 with a degree in agricultural economics. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea, returning home to start a career as a commodities broker in Minneapolis, Minnesota and marry the love of his life, Judy Ohlenroth. In later years he farmed and worked in Crystal Lake. Dick enjoyed reading the paper, discussing current events, gardening, and in previous years, wood working, golfing, bowling and even pheasant hunting. He was a North Stars hockey fan before the team moved to Dallas and a steadfast Vikings fan.  While he would never admit it, he had a soft spot for animals and would bring home stray dogs and cats.  Orphaned piglets sometimes resided in the basement for a bit until they were strong enough to return to the barn.  Dick was a good man with a kind heart.  He always deflected attention away from himself and was a selfless husband, father, brother, and friend.

A funeral mass for Dick will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 1:30pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 206 E. Front Street, Harvard, Illinois.
