Peggy York

Dorothy “Peggy” P. York, 84, of Harvard, Illinois passed away on May 2, 2022, at home.

Peggy was born on September 24, 1937, in Superior, Wisconsin, daughter of Paul and Dorothy (Williams) La Bonte. Peggy married Charles J. York on February 1, 1958 in Wheaton, Illinois. The pair shared over forty-five years of marriage before his passing in 2003. Peggy loved Bingo, bowling, crocheting and spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to the Moose Lodge and the senior center. Peggy was active in her community and very involved in her family’s lives. She crocheted many baby blankets and even some wedding bells.

Peggy is loved and missed by her children Tammy (Robert) Schultz of Belvidere; Clifford (Leslie) York of Lewisville, TX; Brenda (David) Gratz of Harvard; Brian (Ingrid) York of Harvard; and Kathleen (Richard) Kurek of Des Plaines; grandchildren Jason, Tonya, Jennifer, Michael, Stephen, Matthew, Benjamin, Keren, Amber, and Jeremiah; several great-grandchildren; siblings Bonnie Cloer of Statesville, NC and Tommy La Bonte of Slinger, WI; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Eugene and Rose Doege.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Charles; and siblings Paul, Michael, Jimmy, Jackie, Gloria, Angie, Jeanie, and Rosie.

A private Memorial Service will be held for the family on Saturday, May 7, 2022, with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to the Harvard Moose Lodge, 22500 IL Rt. 173, Harvard, IL 60033.
