Nancy Lyman, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023, in Harvard, Illinois. She was born on August 29, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska. Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy had a gentle and gracious nature, always displaying kindness and care towards others. She treasured her husband and family, and they reciprocated the same love and admiration for her. Nancy met her soulmate, Denny, in high school, where she was crowned Prom Queen at Oakland High during her junior year. They tied the knot in 1960, at the young age of 18, and embarked on a remarkable 63-year journey together. Devoted to one another, they served as an inspiring example of love and commitment, often seen holding hands. Their deep Catholic faith guided their lives, and they dedicated their time to helping those in need through their work with St. Vincent DePaul, providing meals and shelter to the homeless in their community.
Nancy's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Dennis Lyman, and their children: Debbie (Briant Sr.) Redmond, Jane (Mike) Radke, Sue (Mike) Koester, Amy (Rob) Franz, and Tom (Kris) Lyman. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jane Chamberlain and Jeanne (Len) Archer, her brother, Bob (Miriam) Nehe, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Erin (Will) Beverung, Corey (Greg) Nell, Brianna (Armando Abendroth) Redmond, Briant Redmond Jr., Stephanie (Kyle) Koester Darnick, Adam (Megan Geraty) Koester, Tony (Lindsey) Franz, Karis (Levi) Bain, Shannon (Daniel) Suchocki, and Sophie Lyman. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Nehe Harbor, her father, Eugene F. Nehe, and her sister, Patricia Eyler. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her.
In her professional life, Nancy enjoyed various roles. She worked as an Avon Lady, a secretary, and served as the local Welcome Wagon representative in the lake country of Wisconsin. However, her proudest achievement was raising her cherished family, dedicating her time and love to their wellbeing.
A private memorial service will be held at the Lyman home on a date to be determined. Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home in Harvard, Illinois, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Nancy Lyman's kind and caring nature touched the lives of many. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
