Maurice “Morey” C. Palmer of Harvard peacefully passed away at William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin on August 14, 2023.
Morey was born in Belvidere, Illinois on February 11, 1949 to Eleanor (Geishert) and Maurice C. “Buck” Palmer. He married the love of his life, Jeannie (Nolan) on September 14, 1991 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harvard.
Morey proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. Part of his service included being assigned to the USS Whetstone during the Vietnam War. He was a retired member of Laborers Local 1035 in commercial and industrial projects. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Harvard Moose Lodge, and the Harvard American Legion. He loved fishing, boating, playing pinochle, and he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannie, children Ben (Alisa) Palmer of Burlington, Wisconsin, Marty (Theresa) Palmer of Belvidere, Illinois, Kelley (Aaron) Crone of Harvard, Illinois, and Thomas Davidson of Loves Park, Illinois. He was a loving Papa to 10 grandchildren, Kody, Andrew, Clarisa, Emmit, Max, Jordyn, Mya, Landon, Finn, and Isla. He is also survived by his siblings, Sue (John) Heeter, Russ Palmer, Barbara Brandt, Linda (Brent) Palmer, and sisters-in-law Margie Palmer and Deb Palmer, many other family members and friends including his best friend since childhood, John Beetstra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Eleanor Palmer, brothers Larry Palmer and Duane Palmer, brother-in-law Robert Brandt, and sister-in-law Debbie Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Morey’s name to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner Street, Harvard, Illinois. A prayer service will follow with Deacon Tony Koss officiating.
