Maria Elena DeMoss

Maria Elena DeMoss, 82, of Harvard, IL passed away peacefully in Woodstock, IL on June 21, 2024. She was born on July 31, 1941, in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Earl and Agnes (Downham) Thornburgh.

Maria spent most of her working career at Cotter & Co in Harvard, IL. Maria loved watching her son Denny play sports when he was younger, and spending time with her family. She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed attending church. Maria also loved to sing and dance. She was particularly fond of cats, taking many in over the years. Maria enjoyed looking her best for family and friends. She was small in stature, but she was feisty and will be missed by many.

Maria is survived by her children Jim (Kathy) Grant of Harvard, IL, Dennis (Margaret) DeMoss of Rockton, IL, Cindy Morris, and Mike Ott; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and siblings Cyndi (Joe) White, Mike (Jodi) Thornburgh, and Elizabeth Anne Thornburgh.

She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Agnes; stepmother Evelyn Thornburgh; son Greg Wren; and siblings Marilyn Thornton, Sondra (Earl) Ridgeway, Earla Sue Vogt, and Robert (Carole) Ira.

A visitation will be held from 11 AM until the 1 PM funeral service on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Saunders Funeral Home & Crematory, 1745 S. Eastwood Dr., Woodstock, IL 60098. Interment to immediately follow at McHenry County Memorial Park.
