Luella Graves, 97, passed away at Valley Hi Nursing Home on Friday, November 23, 2018. She was born on the family farm near Wahpeton, North Dakota to Carl and Anna Hermes. She married Irvin Shebeck and had three children, James, Ronald, and Colleen. Several years after Irvin’s death, Luella married A.L. Graves and they had one daughter, Cheryl.
Luella was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her amazing cooking, baking, and canning skills. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitch, bingo, and a good glass of wine. She had a hilarious and unexpected sense of humor. Luella was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She remained a long-time member of the Women of the Moose, Harvard. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters Colleen (Frank) Shebeck Riess and Cheryl (Michael) Grieshop; grandchildren, Melanie Tucker, Jennifer (Juan) Guzman, Ashley Riess, Kyle (Winona) Grieshop, Evan Grieshop, Jenna Grieshop, Rachael (Bryan) Tonn, Baylie (D.J.) Paroongsup; great-grandchildren, Autumn Fiester, Grace and Ava Guzman, Anika, Brody, Luca, and Finley Tonn, and Jet Paroongsup; step-grandchildren Kelly and Angela Noble; and a brother, Clifford (Donna) Hermes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sons James and Ronald Shebeck, stepdaughter Gayle Johnson, and eight brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Hi Nursing Home and Harvard Care Center for their skilled, compassionate care and kindness over the past several years.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harvard, IL. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
