Lois Ann McGarry, 89, of Harvard, died Tue., Nov. 29 at her daughter’s home in Walworth, WI.
Lois was born Nov. 14, 1933 in Polk County, MN to Palmer “Percy” and Lillian (Christianson) Evanson. She married Robert “Bob” McGarry on Aug. 30, 1950 in East Grand Forks, MN. Bob passed away on January 22, 2002.
Lois was a homemaker for half of her life raising her 8 children in Milwaukee, but eventually coming to Harvard in 1976. In Harvard, they purchased the local bowling alley which was named McGarry’s Bowl. She was a very astute businesswoman who was very active in running the bowling alley. In high school, Lois was a popular student who was voted “Most Likeable” and was very proud of being a cheerleader at her school. She was a lifelong Democrat, that loved bowling and was inducted into the McHenry County Bowler’s Hall of Fame. Lois also was a good cook and enjoyed reading, gardening, going to casino’s and garage sales in Minnesota, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children Kevin (Joan) McGarry of Milwaukee, Sean McGarry of Machesney Park, Katie (Mike Lazzeroni) Morris of Walworth, Maureen (Todd) Vanlue of Garden Prairie, Chad (Kristy) of Harvard, Bridget (Russ) Brennecka of Roscoe, and Brendan (Ruthie) McGarry of Harvard, 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and sisters Johanna, Carol, Linda, and Donna.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, daughter Molly, sisters Kathy and Betty, and brothers Paul and John.
The memorial gathering will be 2 – 5 PM Sun., Dec. 4 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033. The memorial service will be 11 AM Mon., Dec. 5 at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 500 S. Main St., Walworth, WI 53184.
