Laurene A. Thompson, 93, of Capron, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
She was born October 23, 1927, in Juda, WI to Percy and Mildred (Zimmerman) Kleckner.
Laurene married Raymond Thompson on January 22, 1944, in Rockford, IL. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2020.
Laurene was a dedicated and hardworking wife, she worked beside her husband on the farm until she was 50 years old. She later worked 12 years as a bookkeeper for The Abbey, and worked at the Methodist Church for 9 years helping with the Mothers-Day-Out Program. Laurene volunteered her time for 13 years at the Boone County Food Pantry, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award for Illinois in 2010. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and served on the finance committee for 6 years, she was a Women of the Moose member. Laurene spent her entire free time working in her yard, making beautiful flower gardens.
Survivors include her children Edward Thompson, Sandra Bennett, Linda (Howard Randall) Clark, Ray (Nancy) Thompson, and Valerie (Rocco) Erne; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; siblings Pearl and Lyle Kleckner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, brothers Donald, Marion, and LaVerne Kleckner; sons-in-law Joseph Bennett and Kenneth Clark.
Visitation will be 11-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St. Harvard, IL 60033. Funeral services will be private but lived streamed at 1 p.m. following the visitation. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Harvard.
Due to the pandemic, we are only allowed a maximum of 10 people. Everyone entering the funeral home will be required to wear a mask.
