Judith Husmann Obituary

Judith “Judy” Rene’ Husmann, 70, of DePere, WI, passed away on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022, after a short illness at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

She was born April 26th, 1951, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin to Russell Ellis and Emily Natalie (Cunningham) Nelson. 

Judy was raised in Harvard, Illinois, where she graduated from Harvard High School in 1969. She was active in the High School Band, playing the cornet, and was active in the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church. Judy married Michael Allen Husmann on June 11th, 1971 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard, Illinois.

After marriage, Judy and Michael moved to Sharon, Wisconsin, and the Rockford, Illinois area where they raised their two children: Rebecca (Nilles) and Jarod ‘Jeb’ Husmann. Judy was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Loves Park, Illinois, and played an active role in her children’s lives.

Her interests and passions included: crocheting, baking, card games – including canasta, cribbage, and rummy, reading books, watching her children’s sporting events/activities, and education. Later in life, she returned to technical school to receive her certification as a Medical Assistant. In her professional and personal life, she devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver and giving back to those in need.

Judy is survived by her husband Michael, children Jarod “Jeb” Husmann of DePere, WI, and Rebecca Nilles (David Sorrels), of Green Bay, WI. Her sister, Vickie Colcord (Kenneth Colcord) of Harvard, Illinois. Her grandchildren, Zakkary Nilles, Sean Nilles, Makiah Sorrels, Madeline Husmann, Liam Husmann. Her great-grandchild, Aria Nilles. 

She is preceded in death by parents Russell and Natalie Nelson, and uncle Floyd Nelson.

Visitation will be Friday, February 25th from 1-2 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church; 504 E. Diggins St. Harvard, IL, services will take place at 2PM, officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Martin. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, Illinois. 

In lieu of flowers, the Husmann family requests gifts in Judy’s honor to support education opportunities for the incredible nurses and caregivers at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital.
