Juanita “Nita” Carol Hellmuth, 92, passed away peacefully March 25, 2024, at Monterey Village in Lawrence, Kansas. Nita was born on May 16, 1931, in Elgin, Illinois, to parents George Gerhard Greve and Carol Isabelle (Risch) Greve. She graduated from high school in Elgin, Illinois. Nita married Lester W. Hellmuth in Elgin, Illinois on June 25, 1949. Nita and Lester lived in many areas of the country during their marriage. Nita enjoyed each location, creating a loving home for their growing family. Together Lester and Nita had nine children. In addition to being a busy mother and homemaker, Nita was career oriented and sought interesting jobs in each place the family lived. She enjoyed reading, decorating their homes as they moved, and was fond of music, especially big bands.
Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Hellmuth, parents George and Carol Greve, and sister Audrey Shick. Nita is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy & Dennis Warden, Diane & Dennis Kappen, Gary & Cynthia Hellmuth, Dale & Michele Hellmuth, Ron Hellmuth, Larry Hellmuth, Greg Hellmuth and Susan Barrott, seventeen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held from 12 PM - 2 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033. Inurnment to immediately follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 20501 Brink St., Harvard, IL 60033.
