John Charles Stahl, born June 2, 1931, in Harvard, Illinois, passed peacefully in his lakeside home with Donna, his beloved wife of 62 years by his side on April 7, 2022. John (Jack to his family and friends) had good life growing up in Harvard. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he served in the United States Army before returning to Harvard, marrying the love of his life, and raising the family that was the greatest pride and deepest joy of his life. He joined the family insurance business and worked until his retirement from the Stahl Insurance Agency in 2013. He loved playing cards with his good friends in northern Wisconsin, Florida, and Harvard, and really loved flying his airplane. Jack enjoyed building things – anything from furniture and houses to subdivisions and industrial parks. His favorite project was the lakeside home he built with Donna in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin where the family would gather and delight in the warmth of their love for each other.
In addition to Donna, Jack is survived by three children: Amy Stahl Beetstra (John), Deborah Stahl Huberty (Joe), and John Stahl II (Kari), as well as his sister Barbara Stahl DeVan (Byron). He was blessed with nine grandchildren: (Jason Beetstra, Erin Beetstra Bauman (Matt), Eric Huberty, Todd Huberty, Ben Huberty, Nicole Stahl Scott (Rich), John Stahl III, Sean Stahl, and Holly Stahl) and two great-grandchildren (Aria Scott and Jude Scott). He will be joining his eternal family of father Fred Stahl, mother Iona Lusher Stahl, brother Giles Stahl (Bernie), and granddaughter Holly Stahl.
There will be a celebration of life service April 23, 2022 at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Harvard. Visitation is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with a service to follow.
