John J Hohol, 73, a dedicated law enforcement leader and beloved family man, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 30, 2025, in McHenry, IL.
John was born December 29, 1951, to Frank and Marie (Machota) Hohol in Chicago, IL. He married the love of his life, Esther Kelly Toledo on April 15, 1972. Together they welcomed three beloved children to complete their perfect family.
In 1970, he joined the military and proudly served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. Following the military, he chose to protect and serve his community as a brave and courageous police officer for the McHenry County Sheriff's Police, Oakwood Hills and Wonder Lake Police departments. After 36 years, he proudly retired his badge #153.
John’s favorite pastime was being with his wife and family. Especially if they would join him watching one of his favorite cop shows on TV. It wouldn’t matter if it was a rerun, especially if it was watched while enjoying it with one of his tasty meals. He also had a soft spot for all animals and often spent time with many cherished pets and spoiling them any chance possible.
John is survived by his wife, Esther Kelly Hohol and their two sons John J. Hohol and Vincent M. Hohol; grandson, Sebastian; sister Bernadine Bokowski; Terrie Hohol (wife) of Frank Hohol; niece Beverly; nephew Rito Lopez; and many more beloved close and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Carina Hohol, parents Frank and Marie Hohol, brother Frank Hohol, sister Betty and Ted Sadowski.
Visitation will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033 on Friday, June 13, 2025. Funeral service to follow.
