John Haber Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Michael “Mike” Haber share the news of his passing on November 2, 2025. Mike was a resident of Harvard, IL and born in Chicago, IL on January 23, 1943.

He graduated from Lane Tech High School and served in the US Air Force. In 1966, he married his loving wife, Karen (Hansen), with whom he shared 59 years. Together they raised two beloved children; son Mark (Kethery) Haber of Albuquerque, New Mexico and daughter Krista (Matthew) Hein of Muskego, Wisconsin. Mike was blessed with six grandchildren: Rebecca Haber, Kian Haber, Dane Nelson, Jaron Schumann, Bren Schumann and Camden Schumann; and two great- grandchildren: Addilynn Schneider and Zelda Schumann.

His unique sense of humor, appreciation for nature, deep connection to all things Sugar Island, along with his profound love for his treasured family and friends, will be what he is remembered for most.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents: George F. Haber Sr. and Catherine (Dour).

He is survived by his cherished brothers: George F. Haber Jr. (Catherine), Steven Haber (Kathie), and brother-in- Law Steve (Jan) Botts. Mike was also a devoted uncle and great-uncle, roles that brought him additional joy in life.

At his request, there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. His ashes will also be laid to rest at a later time on Sugar Island. A special thanks to the Randazzo and Franklin families; you were his chosen second family in life.
