Obituary

Haroldene “DINK” Hoey, 81, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Mercy Health Care Center in Harvard.

Haroldene was born March 21, 1941, in Woodstock, IL, to Daniel and Naomi (Garrett) Olcott. At a young age she was struck down with polio. During that time she developed fierce courage and a determination to overcome obstacles. Those traits would play a large role in her later years of life. After high school she met and later married Kenneth G. Hoey on April 2, 1960, in Woodstock, Illinois. They were happily married for 43 years. Her career was very important to her, too. She worked in banking most of her life, starting at the Harvard State Bank and eventually moving to the Amcore Bank. She developed strong values through her hard work as head teller and cashier. After retiring from banking, she went on to share her expertise at the McHenry County Treasurer's office. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was very determined and developed a proud, independent lifestyle that allowed her to live by herself for many years. She truly enjoyed her friendships, in fact, she kept in touch with her high school girlfriends and loved socializing with them at lunch every month. Her most enjoyable moments came while spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved hosting Sunday dinners and holidays, where there was always an over abundance of food for all to enjoy. Haroldene will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Haroldene is survived by her children Richard (Cynthia) Hoey, Donald (Sheri) Hoey, Gail (Mike) Mengeling; seven grandchildren, Evan, Austin, Morgan, Rayne, Garrett, Madelyn, Samantha; sister Sandra Bolter, and brother-in-law Gerald (Marjorie) Hoey.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Hoey, parents Daniel and Naomi Olcott, and brothers-in-law Gene Bolter and Tom Hoey.

The graveside service will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church 504 E. Diggins St. Harvard, Illinois 60033, or the Mercy Health at Home Hospice 4223 E. State St. Rockford, Illinois 61108.
