Gayle Enberg Obituary

Gayle Enberg passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021, in Woodstock IL at the age of 63. She was born July 16, 1958.

Being in the middle of a big family, Gayle was obviously loved by her brothers and sisters and she loved them just as much.  This love was never more evident than when their beloved brother Buddy was critically injured in a motorcycle accident. Gayle volunteered to go to Florida and be the eyes and ears for the family. She slept on a chair in his hospital room for several weeks, encouraging him to get better and heal.  Her presence there gave the family much comfort knowing that he was not alone.

Since Gayle was unable to have children of her own, she poured all her love into her nieces and nephews. Brian, Amy, CJ, Chantel, Jeremy, Adam, Alyssa, Mandy, Jami, Janelle, Lucas, Amber, Michael, Garrett....she loved you all so very much. She was always saving little trinkets and stuffed animals for you. When you were small you wouldn't leave her house without her giving you something to take with you – even as your parents groaned inwardly at “another” stuffed animal. As you grew up and started having children of your own it made her so happy. Take comfort in that love, let it wash over you in times of hardships or sadness in your lives. She loved you with no strings attached, just because you were you.

Gayle had a giving spirit. She rooted for the underdog and put tons of energy into other people. Over her lifetime she helped countless people pick up the pieces after one tragedy or another. Sometimes it was with money or maybe a place to crash while you got your life sorted out. Many times, she cut herself short by giving money that she didn’t have – she just couldn’t stop herself from helping.  Numerous people have her to thank for getting them back on their feet.

Besides her siblings and nieces and nephews, her love extended out to all her relatives. So many cousins that she loved to keep in touch with. She held a special place in her heart for her cousin Christine who was a big part of her life.

Humans were not the only recipients of her love. So many cats and dogs were spoiled rotten by her over the years. Her faithful chihuahua's Peanut and Molly were with her until the end.  Her life was an example of unselfishness and love.

Gayle is survived by her step-father David Wright, her siblings Debbie Drechney, Ben Neilson, Rebecca Somerville, Patty (Dennis) Patton, Michael (Maribeth) Lowe, Crystal West, Tresa Stewart, Glennie Gusler, Suzy Fischer , and many other family members.

Gayle was preceded in death by her mother Alice Wright, father Emil Enberg, brothers Buddy Lowe and Monty Enberg and nephew Michael Drechney.
