Deacon Jack O'Leary

Deacon Jack O’Leary, 89, of Belvidere, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony in Rockford, IL.

Deacon Jack was born January 2, 1936, to Edward and Dorothy (Finnegan) O’Leary in Chicago, IL.  On June 29, 1957, he married Beverly LaPointe in Chicago.  Deacon Jack was ordained on May 1, 1999, and belonged to the Sacred Heart Parish in Marengo, was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Marriage and Family Life Ministry, Respect Life Committee and Grief Share Program Leader.

Survivors include his children Deborah O’Leary of Belvidere, Dianne (Tony) Kazian of Harvard, IL, Kathleen (Rich) O’Leary of Island Lake, IL, and Sharon (Patrick) Morehead of Prairie Grove, IL, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Joan (Gerry) Knapp of Glendale Heights, IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly O’Leary, parents Edward and Dorothy O’Leary, brother Edward O’Leary, and sister Marilyn Nestler.

The visitation will be 4 PM – 8 PM Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033.  And again from 9 AM – 10 AM Friday, February 28, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo, IL 60152.  The funeral mass will follow at 10 AM on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Father Kevin Butler will officiate.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marengo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo, IL 60152.
