David W Hoffman

David W. Hoffman, 84, of Harvard, IL, passed away on February 24, 2019, at his home under hospice care.

He was born August 24, 1934, in Mason, WI to William C. and Laura E. (Kelly) Hoffman.

David graduated from Drummond High School in May 1952. Served in the Army during the Korean War Conflict in Germany from 1956-1958, the Cuban Missile Crisis, from Oct 1961-1962, and the reserves from 1958-1964.

David went to work for Consolidated Freight Ways in Waukegan, IL as a truck driver in 1966. He retired after 32 years in 1998.

On December 1, 1983, David married Anna M. Sitan (Schonfelder). They made their home in Alden, IL.

He enjoyed outdoor activities from snowmobiling to hunting, fishing, camping (especially in the RV), and working on his yard at home. Most of all, he loved doing things for his stepchildren and grandchildren. Going on vacations, attending their sporting events, school programs and just being with them was a joy.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Anna; step-children Robert (Andi) Drobnik of Crystal Lake, IL, Sheryl (Dean) Lackey, of Rock Island, IL, Janice (David) Faccone, of Crystal Lake, IL, and Lauri (David) Witt, of Rockford, IL; 12 grandchildren Joseph (Marta) Capriola, Nicholas (Kate) Capriola, Aubrey (Matt) Nicholson, Ali Capriola, Robert (Kayla) Drobnik, Michelle (Jeff Hruby) Drobnik, Otto (Abbeca) Drobnik, Patrick (Mel Uhlrich) Leaf, Michael (Kathleen Gomez) Leaf, David Faccone Jr., Daniel Faccone, and Donny Faccone; 8 great-grandchildren Chayson and Payson Hruby, Harper, Robert, and Dru Drobnik, Rocco Capriola, Summer Drobnik, and Luciana Capriola; sisters-in-law Ardith Hoffman and Betty Hoffman and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon and Albert Hoffman; sisters Neva Hammerer and Judith Rewalt; and his great-niece “Little Princess” Elizabeth Kay Hoffman.

Visitation will be held from 11- 12:00 noon Friday, March 1, 2019, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St. Harvard, IL 60033. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon. Interment will be in Alden Cemetery, Harvard, IL.
