Clarence Chinn Obituary

Clarence (Clancy) J. Chinn, 85, of Harvard passed away on Tuesday, November 21st at Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock.

He was born on February 5, 1938 in Harvard to Albert and Erma (Bartels) Chinn.

Clancy proudly served his country in the Marines from 1956 to 1958. On September 9, 1961, Clarence married his beloved wife Shirley at First United Methodist Church in Harvard.

He worked on the family farm all of his life. While serving in the United States Marines he went to Okinawa, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. Upon returning home he worked at Northern Illinois Gas, Butcherboy , owner of Clancy’s Electric, and in 2004 he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed visiting and telling stories especially one on how Dynamite Springs got it name.  He was an active member of the Harvard community as a member of the Harvard Moose, First United Methodist Church, and Harvard Historical Society. 

He also loved his family and enjoyed sharing his knowledge about farming, gardening and nature. 

Clancy is survived by his loving wife Shirley, children Kanen Chinn, Gayle (Tim) Johnson, and Brian (Brenda) Chinn, grandchildren Brenden, Colton, Megan, Grayson, and Ethan, and siblings Alberta (Richard) Hempel and Glenda (Bill) Lemay.

He is predeceased by his parents Albert and Erma, and sisters Carol, Annetta, and Lois.

The visitation will take place on Friday, December 1st from 3 to 7 PM at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner Street in Harvard. There will also be a visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, December 2nd at First United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Division St. in Harvard with a service to follow.  Pastor Dr. Alex Lee will be officiating.  Interment will be in Dunham-Chemung Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Harvard, the Harvard Historical Society, or JourneyCare Hospice.
