Adelaide (Schneider) Kosman

Adelaide Kosman, 96, of Lake Zurich, formerly of Harvard, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Libertyville Manor, Libertyville, IL.

She was born July 10, 1924, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Fred and Alma (Bloedel) Schneider.  She married Melvin C. Kosman on April 27, 1946, in Chicago.  He preceded her in death on August 23, 2003. 

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Harvard, and more recently attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Barrington, IL.

Adelaide was active in community service, particularly focused on activities benefitting the youth of the area.  She was the first president of the newly formed PTA in Harvard, and instrumental in organizing the first Post Prom Party.  She served on Milk Day committees.  She and Melvin were the counselors for the youth group at St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years, where she also taught Midweek School classes.  She worked as a secretary for the Harvard school system. She and Melvin loved being grandparents, attending as many of the grandkids’ activities as possible.  They enjoyed taking the grandkids on trips.

Survivors include her children Karen (Charles) Kruse and Randall (Joan) Kosman; grandchildren Kurt Kruse, Karla (Brent) Stewart, Kevin (Mary Jo) Kruse, Amanda (Steve) James, Megan (Shane) Steele, and Bethany (T.J.) McHugh; great-grandchildren Dylan, Micah, Andrew, Isaac, Kyle, Alyssa, Trevor, Brendan, Garrett, Addelyn, and Logan; step-great-grandchildren Alex, Seth, and Aaron.

She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse.

Due to the pandemic, the funeral service will be private.  The funeral will be live-streamed at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 27, 2021, through the Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home website.  Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Harvard, IL.
