Vimy Lorraine Burtelson

Born:  January 29th, 1922; in Owen Sound, Canada

Died:  December 25th, 2018; in Harvard, Illinois

 In the early evening of December 25th at the age of 96 Vimy Lorraine Burtelson arrived safely home to be with her Savior. In John 6:39-40 Jesus said: “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Vimy was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of the Harvard Bible Church for a number of years and then Grace Fellowship Church for the last few years.

Vimy married her childhood sweetheart, Frederick S. Burtelson on October 18, 1941, at Mayfair Bible Church in Chicago, Illinois. When they were first married, they lived in New York City when Fred served in the Coast Guard and then they lived in Chicago, Illinois; Lombard, Illinois; Basking Ridge, New Jersey; and finally spent their remaining years together in Harvard, Illinois. They enjoyed travels to many places in the United States, as well as, travels to a number of faraway places.

            Survivors include her two children, Frederick Weldon (Grace) Burtelson of Harvard, Illinois and Vimy Louise (John) Stauss of Harvard, Illinois; five grandchildren, Lee (Stacie) Burtelson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Chad (Kelly) Burtelson of Palm Harbor, Florida, John (Rachel) Stauss of West Dundee, Illinois, Joel (Dawn) Stauss of Hebron, Illinois, Robert Stauss of Madison, Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty (Ken) Roath of Warren, Michigan and Donna (George) Lee of Saratoga, California; and many extended family.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon R. and Isabel Carnahan; her husband, Frederick S. Burtelson on June 26, 2007; and one great-grandchild.

            The family would like to thank the exemplary staff of JourneyCare for their compassion and care for Vimy.

            Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
