Marijule Shields Obituary
Marijule S. Shields, 101, of Harvard, died Tue., Sept. 19 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, WI.
Marijule was born March 30, 1916 to Edward and Pearl (Waters) Strain in Harvard. She went to St. Joseph’s School in Harvard, was a 1934 graduate of Harvard High School, and attended University of Wisconsin in Whitewater, WI. She married Joseph R. Shields on June 21, 1939 at St. Joseph Church in Harvard. Joseph died on March 8, 2009.
She raised 5 children, was active in several book and golf organizations, and was an accomplished bridge player. She played a major role as advisor and hostess with her husband, Joe, throughout his years in business and civic organizations. Marijule was a loving mother and grandmother who thought of everyone else above herself.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of Daughters of Isabella, and a Brownie & Girl Scout leader for many years in Harvard.
Survivors include her children: Barbara (Kirk) McComb of Algonquin, Karyl (James) Glass of Santa Fe, NM, Michael Shields of Harvard, Ray (Roberta) Shields of Deforest, WI, and Patricia (Frank) Novel of Chicago, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Pearl, her husband Joe, and her sister Kathy Smith.
The visitation will be 4-6 PM Friday, Sept. 22 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL. The funeral will be at 11 AM Saturday, Sept 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 206 E. Front St., Harvard, IL. The Rev. Steven Clarke will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Harvard.
