L.R. “Gus” Gustafson, 84, of Harvard passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, Janauary 28, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 30, 1934, in Mile City, Montana. The son of the late Arvid and Dorothy (Lawson) Gustafson.
Gus served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Gus owned and operated L.R. Coins in Harvard, later he worked for the Illinois Tollway.
He enjoyed playing cards, taking trips to the casinos, but most of all spending time with his family. He was a die-hard Bears fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
On October 30, 1971, Gus married Lorretta Collins in Woodstock, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Lorretta; daughters Tracy (Paul) Jacobs, and Penny (Willie) Perez; six grandchildren Tobi Jo (Sam Spoelstra) Gustafson of Orlando, FL; Airman in the Navy Kyle of NAS, Whidbey Island, WA; Daniel, Logan, Adam, and Jayson Jacobs all of Harvard; sisters-in-law June Vest, Bobbie Collins, Shirley Collins, and Joann Collins; brother-in-law Randy (Patty) Collins; and one cousin Annette Gustafson
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Dale Collins, Bobby Collins, Edgar Collins, and Gene Vest.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Fri., Feb. 1, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 E. Diggins St. Harvard, IL 60033. A second visitation will be one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Sat., Feb. 2, 2019, at the church.
