Dorothy E. Wappler, 93, of Harvard, died Thur., Aug. 21 at Mercy Harvard Care Center.
Dorothy was born May 27, 1925 to Glenn and Sara (Dowey) Bottlemy in Alden, IL. Her first husband, Merten Wright, whom she married on Oct. 15, 1955, died in 1984. Dorothy reconnected with an old friend, Floyd L. Wappler, whom she married on Nov. 27, 1984. Floyd died in 2003.
Dorothy was a 1943 Graduate of Alden School. She remained life long friends with her classmates after graduation. From a very young age, she had a beautiful singing voice. Dorothy loved God and served Him well during her entire life. She had a kind and gentle spirit. She loved to travel throughout the United States, and surprise people with the fact that she was a Harley rider. Dorothy enjoyed being out in nature, especially on walks, picnics, mowing, and enjoying her “80 acres.”
Dorothy leaves behind family and many dear friends, whom she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands Merten Wright and Floyd Wappler.
There will be a visitation from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service Sat., Aug. 25 at Alden United Methodist Church, 16532 Rt. 173, Harvard, IL 60033. Rev. Eric Blachford will officiate. Interment will be at Alden Cemetery in Alden, IL.
